Greg Ellis is a creative technologist, stage designer, and multimedia innovator known for fusing high-power lasers, immersive visuals, and cutting-edge audio into unforgettable live experiences. His moniker within the music industry - “The Lazershark” – is born out of his long-standing creative partnership of over 16 years with Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights.
The Phoebus Cartel is a multi-disciplined visual art studio, where Greg expirements to push boundaries across mediums, crafting works that are as technically precise as they are viscerally explosive.
Concert Lighting & Production: Greg has worked in the music industry for over 20 years, designing lighting, laser and video production and working for artists including 30 Seconds to Mars, Banks, Daily Bread, Steve Aoiki and Pretty Lights, along with awards shows and festivals, most recently Rise, the world’s largest sky lantern festival. He also served as Creative Director at Ravine, a state-of-the-art music venue in Atlanta, Georgia.
Analog Video Synthesis: In his live concert performance analog video set up, there is gear from the ’80s, ’90s, and some of the most cutting-edge tech from today. It’s taken him years to develop this system where all these things coexist harmoniously allowing him to bring something new and fresh to the art world.
Abstract Artwork & Prints: Expanding his artistry into the world of abstract painting, Greg explores new ways of translating sound, light, and emotion onto canvas. With musical inspiration drawn from the likes of Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Phish and Pretty Lights, each piece carries an imprint of music.
